Love Is in the Air!

Valentine's Day will soon be here. The birds are beginning to chirp. New life will soon be evident on the trees and across the fields. Yes, love is in the air!

It is said that love is what "makes the world go 'round." The Bible says that while some of the gifts given by the Holy Spirit will disappear, faith, hope, and love will remain. And it specifically says that the greatest of these three is love (1 Corinthians 13:13).

Would you agree that love is the greatest?

Love is often misused. There are many people in the world today who really don't have the foggiest idea what love really is. So often love is equated with sexuality. It is as if you can't mention love without mentioning sex. I think some people in our society have bought into thinking that love and sex go hand in hand - that if you want one, you must give the other. And really, why would our society think any different? After all, that is the message that is communicated when I turn on my TV.

But a huge danger arouses when we begin to believe that sex must accompany love. You see, people begin to think that in order to receive love, they must give sex. And for many, no further thought is given because our sinful nature has no problems with this idea.

What do you think? Do you like the idea of being someone else's property? Do you like the idea of being used for someone else's self-gratification? Do you choose to use people for your own self-gratification?

God really has our best in mind when He sets healthy boundaries in the sexual relationship. God's best includes waiting for a husband or wife who you will commit to for a life-time. It is only in this kind of relationship that you will truly find sexual fulfillment.

So as the birds chirp, the flowers blossom, and you begin to notice that "special someone," remember that God desires only what is best for you in your relationships. Honnoring God sexually with your body is a gift you give to God, your future spouse, and to yourself!
